Thu Hull connection

I have a 3/4" bronze thru hull for a rule pump. I was then going to screw the thru hull on a gate value and then the pump screwed into the gate valve.

The gate valve is metal and the threads do not match up to the thru hull.

Does this mean that I have to us a PVC-plastic gate valve connected to the thru hull so the plastic threads will somewhat form.

Sounds like one it NPT and one is NST. PVC or bronze, you need to determine what the threads of the thru-hull is and get a ball-valve to match it. Or determine the ball-valve threads and get a thru-hull to match it. Personally, im not a fan of using PVC/rubber before the ball-valve

Wont be a PVC gate valve. It will likely be a ball valve.

Two personal opinions:

1) You don't want a gate valve. You want a ball valve. Quarter-turn control and full-flow profile through the valve for minimal turbulence and maximum flow.

2) Thruhulls are available that have "blended" threads - NPS nearer the mushroom and NPT at the end where the valve attaches. They solve the problem you're facing. I'm sure chpthril (one of your respondents here) can provide them, and I know that Jason at WakeMakers has them, as does Marine Hardware in the Seattle area (via their website).

Can you post up a link to the gate valve that you are using? I need to see what the specs are and then we can see what needs to be done.

They seem to screw into one another about 4 threads up.

Where did the gate valve come from and whats the make and model? Looks like a residential/commercial plumbing ball-valve.

Yeah, that's not the ball valve that Jason/WakeMakers sells. His are red bronze, from Marine Hardware in the Seattle area. Says so right on the handle.

That's also not the thruhulls he sells. His do not have the set screw on the side.

The valve I got from Rona and the thu hull is in fact what I ordered from Jason and what they shipped me.

Interesting... I recently received both 3/4 and 1 inch thruhulls and neither type had those little set screws. Oh well.

Anyway, I still wouldn't mix metals. If your valve isn't red bronze, I'd get one that is.
