    Pump Shooting Water Into Bow

So I filled up my ballast on Friday to take my first surf run with Chpthril's custom sac and just happened to check on my front sac. To my great surprise, there was about three inches of water in the compartment in front of the helm!!!

I found that water only entered the compartment when the pump was running so I just went and had fun anyway. Afterward when I took a closer look I found that although the pumps were filling the front bag (I have the 400 lb horseshoe sac that comes with the surf option), water was also streaming through the seam in the plastic that encases the pump. What does this mean? Is it just a crack in the plastic or is there a larger problem inside the pump. Does anyone know if this type of thing is coved under any warranty? It is a white fill pump on the starboard side of the bow that you can reach from the helm storage compartment.

Your thoughts? I was thinking of coating this seam in the plastic with cylicone caulk and seign if it holds.

Could be as simple as a failed oring that seals the pump body to the cartridge or a split pump due to freezing water left in it over winter.

Any thoughts on solutions? Can I just ry to seal it with a crap load of cylicone?

          I would just replace it.

Yeah but the pump still works, it is just a crack in the plastic. I'd rather not replace the whole pump if I don't have to.

...and if it doesn't work? Sounds like you're trying to spend a dollar to save a dime.

Its a stretch, but you can try "welding" the crack up with a soldering iron. With out seeing the crack, this is a stretch.

It's a frustrating thing, because it is such a thin crack that I can put pressure on each end of the pump with one hand while itting in the bow and reaching into the compartment and nearly eliminate water spraying out, It almost totally follows the seem that already exists, which makes sense under the freezing theory. Obviously, the stress of the ice would cause it to crack at the weakest point, right on that seam and around the circumference of the widest part of the pump.

You could always claim materials defect to the manufacturer. Just a thought.

Actually, my dealer winterized the boat for me and then this happened. I'm thinking he ought to do something about it. It isn't a manufacturer defect, because it work just fine last season and then the first time I turn it on this season we have this issue. This is why I like the freezing idea.

                        No... but silicone might work...
                        Jus sayin.

Im just thinking.. if the pumps plastic and you can spread the crack enough.. you can slip a small film of superglue into it.. that $hit's pretty awesome. (not as awesome as Totally Awesome.. but still awesome)
