Very Green Tige Owner w/ questions!!

Yes, I am learning there is a lot to learn about my (new to me) 2007 RZ2!!
    1. Speedometer needle does not move (therefore I am sure the Perfect Pass will not work). I did look at the paddle wheel and it looks ok to me. Spins very easy? Is that what it is suppose to do? What should I check next?
    2. Ballast. I have 4 ballast switches. I don't know where they are located to even know if I can see if they are filling or not. If they are filling how do I know how much water is in them? As you can see I am too GREEN!! I need to go to Tige school!!
Yes, these are only 2 of my many questions!! But, will just handle them a couple at a time!!
    Thanks!!

    Ron:

Welcome to the site and congrats on the new boat. First item is post a pic of the new boat. also take a shot of the engine space and post here.

    can't help on item #1.

#2. Was boat purchased from dealer or prior owner? does it have factory ballast or after market? Are the switches labeled? You may not know and the seller may not have described. Look in the engine space - are there 2 white tanks in the back? They are good sized so u can't miss them. If so then likely factory. If working, u can see the water filling and when full, will pee out the side and thats normal. If no tanks then likely aftermarket and now its detective time. Open all storage spaces looking for ballast bags, hoses or pumps. If ya find something then its "play time" to see if they fill by listening for water pouring into the bags and fiddling w switches which hopefully work. Look under the seats up front too - might be one or more ballast bags up there. My boat is 07 22 VE w factory ballast with aftermkt add-on so a little different but we have 4 rocker switches that I think are in this order:

    1st: port fwd (fill-empty
    2nd: port aft (fill-empty)
    3rd: starboard fwd (fill-empty)
    4th: starbord aft (fill-empty)

Now my boat is v-hull so it has one big bag up front via factory that wraps around under the seats and u definitely can see the bag fill and uses two pumps hence the switches. I'm not sure how factory ballast came in RZ2 since front is different - it might be two separate bags but somebody will chime in here. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Your 07 has an analog speedo (the needle) as well as a digital read out. When the Tige Speed-Set is turned on, you will see IIRC, "Set Speed" and "Actual Speed" appear in the digital display.

If neither the needle or the digi work, I would lean towards the paddle wheel or the pickup. If the digi shows speed, then I would suspect the gauge or a lose connection on the back.

The ballast has a pair of 250# tanks across the back and a single 400# sac up fron under the bow seats. You can see the bow sac filling if you lift the seats. The hard tanks cna be seen by opening the engine cover and looking bact to the transom at the tanks.

You will know they are full when they purge out of the vent thru-hulls. I think the fill pumps are 750 GPH pumps.

I think in that year you can switch the plug from the tach to the speed and see if the guage moves with engine running if so the guage is ok .
