ballast choice on a 99 22i pre

I am going to set up my boat with some fat sacs this spring. i have narrowed it down to two bags one pump and placing them on both sides of the engine compartment. Should i go with two 750lb bags or two 400lb bags? The difference in price is 80 bucks. I was planning on getting the two 750lb bags but if the smaller ones will suffice then ill get the smaller ones. Thanks for any advice. I'd like to try surfing this year.

I think most on here will always say go bigger. I too am just going to start surfing this spring. I went ahead and bit the bullet and went with a custom sac, I figured I would rather do it once and it woudl be cheaper to do it once. For surfing you are probably going to want more weight than not. I personally woudl look at the 400 # sacs as sacs to improve the wake for wakeboarding.

Just my two but I would check with Chpthril if you have not. Easy to work with and great prices. He will also be good on advice as which one would be better.

For a very small increase in price you're getting nearly double the capacity with the larger bags, and you don't always have to fill them all the way, so for that reason most of our customers go with the larger bags.

If you're planning on using the boat for surfing at all then you'll need the additional weight the larger bags provide. If you're just going to be using it for wakeboarding you could probably get away with the V-Drive Sacs, but again, for $80 and another 700 pounds of capacity, the Fat Sacs are a no brainer in my opinion.

That is by far the our most popular setup for drive drive boats, and we've had a lot of 22i customers run that setup with very good results.

The W701 400lb sacs are $.25 p/lb

The W707 750lb sacs are $.20 p/lb

The 750lb sacs will give you an awesome wakeboard wake and the best surf wake. $ p/lb they are the best value.

What people forget about that boat is the wake shape. It's better than most new boats. I only run 1 350 in the trunk on most days. If I only have 1 or 2 people out then I have another I'll put on the floor behind the motor. My point is, you don't need a ton of weight just because you want to surf your D-drive. That thing is already a great little surf boat. I like having an evenly weighted boat so that we can switch sides whenever we want, including while surfing. "VAB to starboard!" or "VAB to port!" All my riders know this call and they respond accordingly.

I would highly recomend Mike (ChpThril) He is not pushy in the slightest, He has OUTSTANDING customer service, his prices are just right, and he has done some great things for this Tige community. I purchased everything I needed for my integrated ballast install.

Obviously this isnt a no brainer as previously stated. As you can see, you had a legitimate question and Mike gave you an answer that showed you why the 750 lb sacks were worth it. as they are ~5 cents less per pound than the 400 lbs sacks. With an increase of almost double the capacity of weight you cant really go wrong for an extra $80. as you progress you will definitely want more wake/ weight. even with the great design of the hull and getting a really nice wake from a stock boat, you can obtain an incredible wake with more ballast. Eventually you will probably get to the point that you want to integrate your system to the boat by plumbing an intake and drain set up so that you can fill and empty your ballast with the flip of a switch. Mike can get you everything you need at great prices and can even aid in information for installation.

By the way my integrated ballast is by far the best modification I have done to our 2001 21V. When you have surfers that surf different sides, it is easy to switch the weight from one side to the other. if you have boarders that ride at different levels you can add weight or take it out with in a minute or two and by just flipping a switch. My boat came with 3 sacks and 2 pumps when we purchased it. to buy the rest of the materials to integrate it was about $250-300 SO for ~$600+- depending on what sacks you buy and a little enginuity and your own labor you can have a great ballast set up that fills and empties with the flip of some switches.

Thanks for the help everyone. I just had the drive shaft and strut replaced for $2000 so it might be a few months before i purchase the bags, but i will definitely go with the two 750 lbers

Bummer dude, sorry to hear. Did that include a new prop as well? I hope that gets you fixed up for summer.

I didn't get the prop yet because i need to find out my rpms and all that jazz. then ill order the prop and bags from you. The repairs came out to 1800 and the shop said they threw on a dripless system which made me happy because i was thinking about doing that myself. I have a few more repairs before the summer. The rear compartment hatch pulled off last fall. It looks like the wood has rotted where the screws were and the screws pulled right out of the wood. I don't know what i should do to fix this. Probably just take it into an upholsterer? The vinyl upholstery is fine just the wood is bad i guess. Any thoughts? Once i get that fixed i need to fix a gouge in the hull. I seem to have bought a lemon. Everything keeps breaking.
