    Lead Questions for Winter Project

    Hey all,

Been a while since I was on here. Got a 6 month old so I bet most of you would understand

One big problem we noticed with our 21i was how incredibly inconvenient it is to have an 1100lb sack wrapped around the engine compartment with a full crew of friends and a baby on board. I have resisted the lead option for a while but am thinking about giving it a go next season. We live 3 miles from the ramp and are never trying to cruise over 25mph so I am not really concerned about not being able to dump weight.

I have been reviewing the other lead threads and have seen suggestions about where to get lead weights. My local tire shops will not give it away but I also heard someone mention they got some from a gun range. Any ideas on the cost/lb for that? I am thinking about doing 500lb to start with.

Also, I thought it would be great if I could get my hands on lead or steel plating ant place them on either side of the driveshaft under the rear floor hatch. Anyone do this?

    Thanks!

I know someone who is taking apart a sailboat... heh heh heh.. I may be hauling it to my house Friday.

I believe I will have about 2400 lbs of lead avaialble, as long as the keel is not cast iron.... My brother-in-law wants some, but he cannot afford to take it all. What is salvage scrap price per pound? PM me, I can totally hook you up...

    It's not an optical illusion.

I know you only tow a few miles but one thing to consider is the total weight the trailer can carry. My trailer is rated up to 6,000 lbs. The boat weighs 4150 dry and the trailer weighs 1200. So I'm at 5350 before gas, roughly 300 lbs, the boards, cooler, etc...

500 lbs is safe to start with but just keep that in the back of your head.

Yep, you are right....and I have single axle. I may actually have the boat in a slip by next year. That would be ideal. I am thinking I could do 500# of lead and then I can fit another 450# water bag concealed under the rear hatch.
