I'm certainly not telling you your business. I'm just curious as to what conditions might lead to a failure. Sorry for the delayed response, somehow I missed this thread. By design those clamps are intended for temporary use only. If you had a situation where you were constantly changing hose connections, like in a chemical processing plant, they're ideal.

They were never intended for permanent use though, and eventually the teeth will slip sideways. As soon as that happens the clamp fails. We talk to customers all the time with this problem, sometimes it takes a few weeks, sometimes a few years, but it's just the wrong tool for the job.

They're great if you're installing a system for the first time and you're not confident in how you're plumbing things. So for the initial install and testing, definitely use them, that's what they're made for. Once you finalize things though, switch to a more secure connection so you know you, or the future owner, won't have to deal with a leak.

One of the major manufacturers of the Glass-filled Nylon snap clamps is a company called Hellermann Tyton. NO WHERE in their lit, can I find anything that indicates that these clamps are intended for temp use only. Clamps like these have been used for years in the automotive industry. The only issue I have seen with them, is after a number of years of service, they get brittle and break when you attempt to remove them. Again, they dont seem to fail while in-use, juts after years of temp cycles under the hood of a car.

Here is a link to their product PDF for those that want to see for themselves.

For those that want to use the SS worm-gear.....I got them.

For those that want to use the seamless band type....I got them and can probably get you a wholesale price on the crimmping tool.

I can see wakenakerspoint. If the plastic clamps get some side load it could make them unlatch correct? Like pulling gear in and out etc. And knocking the side of the clamp.

That's easy, when the clamp is installed, wrap it with duct tape or gorilla tape, that will keep the teeth aligned.

You do make an excellent point. If one was concerned with this, then you could add a drop of adhesive to the teeth before snapping together. This would bond the clamp once cured. Once the clamps are tensioned around the rubber hose, it actually takes a pair of pliers to get the clamp to slide sideways and disengage.

Aww man, I wanted to see a fight.

I can see how the nylon clamps could be a problem. So far, I have yet to see any issues with them but I will keep a close eye on them. It's pretty hard for me knock them when the only thing I don't like about them has yet to show any signs of rearing its ugly head.

Thanks to both Mike and Jason for chiming in on these threads. You guys being direct competitors puts you both at immediate odds. It also puts the rest of us in the middle. We have to go one way or the other and when its "six of one, half dozen of the other", its hard for us to pick one of you without feeling like we are offending the other. You both have managed to stay completely professional and I have to commend you for that. It's much harder than getting into a pissing match.

I feel you two would make the perfect Tigeowners Celebrity Death Match.

Unfortunately I don't think it would make very good TV, I'm not trying to be argumentative, and I'm sorry if it comes off like that to Mike, or anyone else. Just trying to pass along some of the knowledge we've gathered after doing this for a long time so everyone in the community can benefit from it.

My dad taught me to use the right tool for the job when I was little, and even though I'm guilty of using a screwdriver as a chisel occasionally, we've found that applying that adage to ballast makes for a much more reliable, trouble free system that we know our customers will never have issues with.

How to tell when a red-neck is lying?

When he says "Ya'll aint gonna beleive this $h!T"

So, ive got a 2011 RZ2 that came in to the shop yesterday. Its getting some stereo upgrades and we are also swapping the OEM surf sacs for out Plug-n-Play custom sacs.

I start to pull the factory sac and an LOW AND BE HOLD....look what I find! Glass-filled Nylon Snap-Clamps

You guys reading along are smart edjewmakated people. You guys can decide which style of clamp you want to go with. I do custom system and will be happy to supply whichever type you want. Im even looking into the feasibility of supplying the pliers needed for the pinch type clamps.......on a loan basis though.

I went with the glass filled nylon snap clamps.

That is one of the next things I have to do with my ballast install.

Those ballast bags have to have alot more flexability than the average redneck can comprehend to reach over and unlock those plastic clamps.Hell i've even cussed um a time or two when trying to get them undone with pliers.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.
