22ve TAKING ON WATER - Help!

I recently bought a used 22ve and in the first week thought it was taking on water but the problem went away - then this weekend I arrived at the Marina where we keep it to find it almost submerged. The swim platform was under water and the cockpit visibly filling with water. A week ago everything was fine and when we shut it down the bilge ran for 10 minutes then stopped. I notice the bilge will not automatically come on if water is in the engine compartment but I simply thought perhaps it was not enough to start it. However this time it never came on. When we pulled the boat there were no obvious problems - drain plug was tight and we unscrewed it to let the boat drain which took 30 minutes ++
Can anyone help advise the potential problem - There is a tech at the marina who will examine it tomorrow but they are not a dealer.

Could be leaking through the shaft seal. Definately get that pump repaired. Might just need to take it apart and clean the float switch.

Trans cooler plug maybe left out from winterizing. it's on the underside of the cooler and is a bi'atch to see and install.

Can you tell if the water is accumulating with the engine running, boat in motion, and/or just sitting.

What chpthril said. Look for something maybe left unplugged or a hose that did not get installed properly. I've had it happen when one of the supply hoses did not get the hose clamp tightened and it blew off and filled the hull with about 12 inches of water. Luckily my hose on my ballast system is long and i was able to use it to pump out the water cause the bilge would have taken a long time to pump all of that out by itself.

check for cracks in the exhaust pipes, or loose band clamps. They sit below the water level as does the shaft seal.

If it has a heater make sure the core isn't cracked. It happened to us after the marina forgot to winterize the heater system.

There is a plug that needs to be taken off of the transmission??

x2 on the shaft seal. I would say that is a likely source to look first.

HI thanks for you advice. I don't believe it is taking on water when running but it is hard to tell. I was happy it started the bilge when on when so much water had accumulated but we can't tell if the bilge pump would have drained the boat while running because we pulled the entire thing out of the water as fast as we could. During the last 2 months I would say the bilge seemed to do it's job so I am kind of assuming (a bad thing to do) that this problem is while the engine is off.

                    Identified - Ballast pump seized

We have resolved this problem - one of the ballast pumps was seized - actually it burned out and caused the imported water to be pushed constantly into the engine and passenger compartment.
The fact that the "auto" function on the bilge was not working really caused this problem to be highlighted.
We re-splashed the boat and the tech quickly identified the problem.

Thanks to all for your help.
