    remove rear ballast tanks

I have an 06 22ve, and I need to remove the rear ballast tanks. Is there something I don't know, I can not pull them out of the two doors on either side of the motor. Surely they were not put in before the motor. Any suggestions?

You will need to remove the rear bulk-head walls to open up the complete transom. This requires the removal of the batteries and TAPS motor. It is doable though.

I want to remove the rear ballast tanks to help change the steering cable, check the water pump impeller, change the oil and filter, and the fuel filter. I just bought the boat, it has 142 hours, its a clean boat, kept on Lake travis (fresh water). I just want to make sure that boat has been looked over. I am also going to change the v drive fluid, trans fluid, and belts. Is there anything else that should be checked?

I dont think you will need to pull the tanks to change either the cable or impeller

I have an 04 22v. I finally removed the tanks and replaced them bags. They where always getting in the way of everything I wanted to do. Best thing I did. You can accomplish all you want to do but its a pain with those hard tanks in. Much nicer with them. I was able to get mine out with out removing anything else, a little tricky though.
