There are 2 reasons why I recommend and install sac vents. 1) over time, the sacs will accumulate air from the fill lines. Over time, this are is taking up space that could be filled with water. 2) with out a vent, the pumps, especially the impeller type, will blow them up line a balloon, which could lead to a failure. Now, one could easily open all the hatches and watch the sacs as the fill, but this is not my idea of an automated ballast system.

Are the necessary no, can the enhance a system, I believe so.

IMPO venting is a must. So yes if it were me I would install vents unless you are going to manually burp the bags every time.

ok i was just making sure if I made a trip or two before i put the vents in it would be fine. i figured it would i just wanted wanted to make sure that there wasnt an unwritten rule that states my boat will blow up from the water turning into gasoline because I didnt put vents in. (joking of course)
