    2002 20V Ballast Install Question

    Hello,

I am trying to install a fully automated ballast system in my 2002 20v. Unfortunatly I do not have any ballast other than the throw over the side of the boat method.

I plan on doing areator pumps since I already have them and I was wondering if I run separate drain and vent lines if I still need to use check valves. The valves are pretty expensive so I figured it would be easier just to add another thru-hull.

What type thru-hull would you recomend: mushroom or strainer?

    Here is the plans:

    3 tsunami 1200 fill pumps
    3 tsunami 800 drain pumps
    2 launch pad v drive 750lbs sacs
1 launch pad bow sac 600lbs

I figured I would do a manifold off the thru-hull for the fill pumps and just put the drain pumps directly on the bags. I would rather use the fly high bags but I already have the others and do not want to spend the money to buy more bags.

Do I need a spring check valve before the manifold to prevent the sacs from filling when I dont want them too?

    Any suggestions would be great.

    Thanks

The valves are pretty expensive so I figured it would be easier just to add another thru-hull. A check-valve would not be needed, but having one in the vent line adds in draining by allowing the sac to collaps on itself. This can help force the water towards the drain pump.

What type thru-hull would you recomend: mushroom or strainer? I prefer a mushroom. If you use a scoop type, it will force feed the pumps, so some kind of shutoff or gate valve will be needed.

Thanks for the response!! I hope to get started very soon. I just finished replacing the steering cable and that left a bad taste in my mouth. WOW what a PITA!!!

I just wish the 1200 Tsunami pumps where not so hard to get fittings for.

What size thru-hull for the intake would you recommend?

So no check vavle before the manifold?

            bamaboy2006,

If you need thru-hulls for the drains I have some 1" I decided to not use. I have 7 and all but one are still in the packages.

What kind are they? How much for them?

So would you recommend using separate thru hulls for the vent and drain or just using a tee.

I am doing an install in my RZ2 and I am going to use a T for the vent and drain and then tie that into a check valve and then the thru-hull.

Are you going to put the check valve after the tee? I am pretty sure you will need one on the vent line so the drain line will not just flow back into it. I guess you really would not need one on the drain line.

Yeah, sorry, I wrote that wrong, the check valve will go right before the T on the vent line side.

I have the same boat..man does 2100# sound like a LOOOOOOT of weight!

Please take pics and keep us updated. My homeys have been bitching at me to do an automated system, but the work and $$$ has kept me from doing it.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Yeah it throws a monster surf wake with them filled up and just a couple of people in the boat. I just hate having to do it with the over the side of the boat pumps. PITA!! I will do my best to do a post of the install. Just want to have everything laid out before I get started. I have done a diagram and I am going to try to post it here for everyone to look at and give me advice on any changes that might need to be done.

                            Ballast Setup #1

Here is a drawing of the initial setup that I was going to do, but now I think I will just use seperate holes for the drain and vent lines and Tsunami 800's for the drain pumps. I will post another drawing of the new design later.
