2017 Tige Z1 surf tab suggestions

    Hello,

I am pretty new to the world of wake surf boats, I haven't been on any before getting my own so I'm learning quickfast about wave settings and such. Being a 21 foot boat, it seems the recommended ballast settings are for it to be all full. But I've been struggling to find a good wave setting. Dealer said start at 4 - 4 so I started there but wasn't having much luck on the 4'8" Doomswell so I got a bigger board and its been a little easier but still very challenging to keep driving forward. I also just figured out after 2 weeks of ownership that the lower number on the surf tab means the plate will extend more, which seems backwards to me. So should I just have the wave tab at 1 ? Would that create the most list and pushiest wave? Should bow bags be empty, full, half full? I can't remember what settings i had in this video but the only way so far ive been able to recover after falling back is to lower my body.

I would look at adding ballast, then using the surf system. Wakemakers might make a bag for it. Wave looks very very small.

duffymahoney that was like the last thing I wanted to hear lol. It’s a leisure boat as well so have a ballast sitting on a seat is a no go for me. Need some ideas for the stock setup. I think it’s 2400lbs total factory ballast.

I have only been going 10.8 mph, you can’t change the default speed on the surf until after you start moving and my driver is a novice driver so I don’t want to give her more things to do. I did find both of my rear bags were folder on themselves on the front parts, after fixing that my wave at 10.8 was even worse. I’m definitely going to try some faster speeds next time I’m out, just wish I could change the default speed. Someone let me know if there’s a way. (I know there’s Tige you but it’s janky and doesn’t allow changing the plates on the fly)

          You can hide ballast.

You should be able to change the speed and setting on the fly. Next time try 6 & 4 on the surf.

lee you know what I just remembered there’s dedicated hard buttons for the up and down on the speed. Still a bit of a pain setting that every single time. I’ll experiment with Tige you more. 6 on center tab? I haven’t experimented much on that one above 4 in fear that a taller wave would be worse but I’ll try it

here is the regular side, which is arguably better than the goofy side for some reason.

Are you filling all of the ballast?

Fill everything 100%. Confirm they are full by watching the overflows (bow) and opening lockers (rear). 11 mph speed is good. 4 and 4 is a good TAPS to start.

Search on here to check surf actuators. Enter dealer code and have someone watch to make sure each side is fully extending and retracting.

If all that is good, get on the water. All peeps (wife and buddies) should be on back surf side corner for a steeper wave. Add speed and lower number (closer to 1) for center tab to lengthen wave. I wouldn’t go over 11.5 mph. You should feel the boat list quite a bit once at speed and actuators do their thing. Either a short steep wave or long more mellow wave. I haven’t figured out how to have both without buying a new boat so it will be a compromise.

These baby Tiges need weight to make good waves but you should get something like below with what you got. I have 1000 lbs of lead weight and about 1000 lbs more ballast than stock as an example but pic below is stock with just bigger bags in back.

Post your wave and good luck!!

flattrack good info on the passengers, I wasn't really sure on that, thank you. I did do the actuator test and they both look good. I have already done 100% full 4 and 4 but at 10.8 mph and it doesnt look as good as your wave at all. i definitely need to try a faster speed and a lower taps3 number. I plan on getting out saturday morning and doing some testing and riding. I think the speed is my biggest thing right now.

are your year bags in that photo wakemakers or the stock bags that are pretty big and go under the storage a little bit? Maybe i could put in an order of wakemakers stern bags for next summer.

Stock bags ended up popping at the bottom port so swapped with Wakemakers Z3. Bow bags fit fine. Rear bags require a little attention when filling but otherwise work well and do fill about 3/4 of the side lockers to the point of lifting the seats slightly. I still have part numbers for the bags (see below). With the extra weight (ballast and lead), she sits fat so you have to be careful to not submarine the bow. But the wave is worth it.

still working on this. i just got a pretty dialed wave at 3 surf 3 tabs, 100% rear surf side 80% none side side, 60 and 60 up front. it was very clean, long, not too high, and sweet spot was further away from the platform.
