    2000 21i ballast setup

I remember reading some post about wakeboard and surfing setups for a 21i. Here are some photo's of my wake for both.
1st 2 pics are w/ 320# in back, (2) 400# on each side of the engine but we were only going about 18mph.

    3rd pic if w/ 320# in back and (2) 400# on 1 side @ 11mph.

I really need to take a picture w/out someone surfing, the wake looks a lot better. I have some video but don't know how to do a you-tube video.

i have been throwing around some ideas...spbfan has been helping me. He gave me quote on a ballast system (we are both just busy and quite seem to hook up to talk more) for an 03 21i I just bought this fall. Your wakes look pretty good...I can appreciate the gloves...I am up in BC Canda. You have that 320# in your back locker obviously??

I guess you missed my post on the 29th in your ballast thread, i'm not too busy to answer all your questions and help you build a truly custom system to fit your boat, not just sell you parts.

TRD runs the 320# under the back seat bench. If i remember right, it's the W704 tube sac 10x16x62

NO, I didn't take my back seat this time. I usually goes under the back seat. I use my locker for storage. This is what I have:

TRD runs the 320# under the back seat bench. If i remember right, it's the W704 tube sac 10x16x62

I also have (2) 400# v-drive sacs for surfing. This is about the max weight I can put in my boat because my rub rail is right at the water line when I surf. We usually get a pretty good wake, comes up to about my hip or a little higher. I will get some pics the next time out.

funny note: I couldn't fill up my 2nd sac all the way because I had a friend that way's about 380# and I had water coming over the side w/ him on that side. I didn't want to make him stand in the middle the entire time.

To the experts: I never had this happen, is this when I would put weight up front in my walk way?

Sorry thril...I didn't miss it. I just got BSin with spbfan about the system and kinda forgot...and I will definetly need some help with the install. I have talked with the boat dealers around here and without taking it 2 days travel away, no-one has done an install before...my thoughts are I may as well do it myself rather than somebody else that has never done it. I am a tradesman so I think I can get er. Especially if you guys are willing to help. I am just kind of thinking about if I should hard mount this winter or not or get some temp sacs and ride next summer then hard mount them next winter. thats why I have been asking everyone that comes out with a new 21i surfing thread. i do appreciate your guys input...

My opinion: I have used sacs for 2 seasons now and I get A LOT of water in the boat from filling and unfilling the sacs. If you could do it permanently I probably would.

My problem is I don't know where I could put the sacs, I only have 1 locker in the back and that wouldn't even hold my 320# sac. I don't have any room under the floor like the newer boat do. So I think I am locked into doing it this way. I really wish I would have learned to surf on the drives side of the boat because we could at least walk around in the boat and surf too. Now I have to crawl over the bags and engine cover. It is still fun for us old guys.

I had the gloves on while I was wakeboarding, I figured I was already wet I just stayed in and surfed after that. Forgot I had them on.LOL

yeah I hear you on crawling around the boat...I spent a lot of time on a mastercraft x-9 and I swore I was getting a v-drive with ballast tanks. I just couldn't turn down the tige I bought...I figured you were just a warrior...surfin in the cold

Hi Shamus, I too am up in BC. We bought an 02 21iR last fall and are running it in Shuswap. If I remember correct you are way up Northern BC. I am trying to set mine up for surfing but have not been able to make a big enough wake yet. I can almost ride it but still need a tug from the rope to stay with it. I am putting a 750#bag in my rear locker and am trying to avoid the people shuffle thing. I am now ordering another 370# bag which I will try under the rear seat with people also in the bow to weight the hull down. Not sure if I have the right prop or not, I'll have to research more on that. Anyway I'll let you know how it goes.

Do you have an overhead view of your boat? Trying to get an idea of how it might be different from TRD's and JLoflin's 21i's.

TRD I think is running a couple of 400 lb sacs along the side and a 350 under the back seat with a 150 Fat Brick to move around. Jloflin has a 650 under the back seat and a 750 along the side and then a 400 to supplement. If you od a search, there is a thread with pics and layout of JLoflins boat as we just did it a few months back. Once he gets a frozen TAPS actuator replaced, he will be able to get the wake dialed in since the addition of the 750.

                    Hi chpthril,

I'll take one next time we're up at the lake. In the meantime I could do a sketch of it. Would that help?

That might. I have a feeling your 02 is more like the current 22I, then it is the older 21i's.

Tigebert & Chpthril, I have some pictures of the sacs we used last sat. The surf wake is freaking awesome. Tigebert, if you can wait a couple of days I will post the pictures and the layout and the wake.

My wife is training for a mini triathlon and I got volunteered to train also (at 49). I will try and post tomorrow if I can.

Chp, all my layouts have changed so I want to make sure before I bombard you w/ questions and know what I want so I'm not wasting your time. The last 2 sat. have been awesome surfing. JLoflin420 has it working out great. This is the most fun I have had yet w/ my boat.

We are hoping to be at Lake Norman on Labor Day wkend. You should make plan to meet up w/ us that wkend and test w/ us. The only unknown right now is what happens when you add people to the boat w/ that weight.

                            Hi Chp,

Yes it is. The 02 21i was introduced mid year and used the newer convex v hull design. I asked Tige about it and sent them the HIN. They confirmed it and said the hull for that boat was the same hull used for the 20v but I think they meant the 21v as it's longer than a 20v. I'll do a little sketch and try to post.
