    Drilling holes in my boat

I have just gone through pages and pages and can't seem to find an answer.

I am wondering on a 2003 22i where the best place to drill thru the hull for ballasts bags. I have 2 bags at the back and the intergrated one in the bow

    Thanks

Either behind or on the opposite side of the keel from speedo paddle wheel. Turbulence off the scoop will F with it.

Exactly, you can see where I put mine in this thread - page 2.

I was thinking under that panel but then an emergency shut off value could not be installed. Obviously you are concerned about no shut off below water level??

          A shut-off is highly recommended.

I am kind of thinking to have a semi auto system: wired and plumbed for pumps to empty, & vented, and as far as filling I could easily have it wired and plumbed with a hose long enough just to throw over the side.

            Does this make any sense?

Yep, I bought a shutoff and had initially installed it, but you could not get to it if needed. Thats why I went with the brass elbows and all threaded schedule 80 for the manifold. Sure there is a risk, but all hose to the pumps are above water line. There's no difference in not having a shutoff valve from the main intake to the raw water pump on the engine.

Depends on the type of pumps you go with. Aerator pumps are not self priming, so the fill pump would have to be on the end of the hose that gets tossed overboard. Or, use reversible impeller type pumps and fill and drain with the same pump by dropping a hose overboard. They are pricey though.
