thru hull

hey what are you guys using for your thru hull?

i cant deside between an open hull or one with a scoop grate. i would like to use an open one because i could still fill up even at an idle speed, but im worried about sucking garbage.

and if i used a scoop style i wouldnt worrie about sucking things up but I would have to put it backwars so it wouldnt fill by itself while up to speed. im worried thought that witth it backwards it will make it so i cant fill at all if im moving at idle speed.

any insight would be great, let me know what worked for you or any problems you have dhad with either way

Go with a thru-hull mushroom and use a 3" strainer over top of it.

Here is a pic of what I was referring to. Mount the shroom as normal, then mount this over it. No sucking up junk, no force-fed filling as with a forward facing scoop, no suction causing unwanted draining as with a rear facing scoop. You will be able to fill or drain on the run or stopped with no need of check valves or gates.

I used a thru-hull shroom on my 22Ve, with no strainer, and had no issues filling while stopped or cruising speed.
