    Jabsco Ballast Puppy confusion

I am getting ready to plumb in some extra weight for surfing.

The Jabsco ballast puppies have got me confused.

Here is why: The current pump in my boat is a 18220-8123 and seems to work great for my boat. I can't even find the specs for this pump on the Jabsco website, or anywhere else for that matter. I am sure it is a discontinued pump, but still...

Listed on the website is a 18220-1121 as the current ballast puppy and it purports to pump at 11 gallons per minute. These can only be found in a few places, and are more expensive than the - 1127. The 1121 generally runs about $240, but the 1127 can be found for $190. The 1127 are rated at only 8 GPM.

here is the specs for the 1127: Go to page 2:
    http://www.jabsco.com/files/new_products.pdf.pdf

And here is the 1121: http://www.jabsco.com/products/indus..._217/index.htm

    The questions are this:

What are the specs for my current pumps? (the 8123)

Is there really any difference in pump flow for the 1121 or 1127? They look the same. One has a nitrile (yellow) vs neoprene impeller...is the impeller the only difference?

The part number on the OEM could be a specific number just for the pumps sold to MC, that could be why you're not finding it. If I remember right, the Jabsco Puppy was a 12GPM pump. The cheaper of the 2 pumps you have compaired, may not be ignition protected, thus the cheaper price. A lot of peeps go with the Simer's for the price, but dont realize they are not IP'd.

I know for a fact that the yellow Nitrile impellers will last alot longer then the black neo's when used as a reversable.

The cheaper seems to have a lower flow rate...That is my issue.

MC now recommends that everyone switch to the yellow impellers. I cracked mine open and found it already was yellow...so I bet the original owner found out why the nitrile (yellow) is better.

I have herd from the MC sight that they now have green impellers for the pumps. You might want to look in to it. At the time he did not know what the difference was but they were green. I need to go look it up.

Funny thing is that no one can tell me what the green ones are actually made of. Current thinking is that the yellow (nitrile) are the standard best impeller. I thought the black ones were made of neoprene...that is not the same as "Polyeurethane Compound" is it? So maybe that is the green impeller? and they just dumped the black neoprene impellers altogether? I have 3 pumps, one of which is easy to get to, and it has a yellow impeller. The other two will require some harry Houdini acrobatics to get to the impeller, and a mirror to see them. It is interesting that the one I can see is the noisiest for some reason...I wonder if the others are not yellow?

I tried to call Jabsco and the lady gave me the runaround about who knows anything about these.

            Thanks Jim!

tall, I ran into the same issue over the winter - ended up buying three of the 1127 pumps. I opened them up and they do have the yellow impeller, so far they have worked great. All the paperwork that came with them - specs, installation guide, drawings, parts list, etc. are for the 1123 pump. If you need it I would be glad to send you a copy - hope you're enjoying the MC.
