Stainless thru hulls, clear tubing

If anyone has recently completed (or started) work on their ballast system...would you mind sharing where you found your stainless thru-hulls fittings and clear tubing? I need 1", and I have found 1 (pricey) source for the thru hulls online, but I am having trouble finding 1" clear tubing, for some reason.

I found the clear tubing at Home Depot. I ordered the stainless thru-hulls from one of the discount marine supply places. Make sure you use bronze for anything below the waterline.

Would you not use stainless below the waterline? What is the risk?

Remember that the clear tubing can kink and cause problems, so be careful with it. I like that stuff that has some clarity to it, but is ribbed so that it cannot kink on itself.

I bought my multiflex tubing from boatfix and jameston distributors, both online. They should have the clear pvc tubing too. I'd recommend the multiflex though.

From what I understand, the SS is more suseptable to galvonic corrosion then bronze. for a trailerboat, it's probably a moot point, but there is a better selection of bronze in that size anyway.

That's exactly right. Ever wonder why none of your fittings below the waterline are stainless? About the only thing that is stainless is your prop shaft.

and that's only because a bronze prop shaft would not be as rigid
