Well yeah we have rules but they are pretty loose and end with us constantly cleaning. On our family vacation we got people tracking in right and left and they dont always want to go on our boat compared to the 25 foot brand new cobalt our relative owns.

I have noticed that most of the non-boaters that go out with us (for the 1st few times) are scared S'less to move like they are going to hurt something.

I try to tell them to relax, make your self at home and don't worry.........boats are built strong, tough, and resilient.

They way I look at is it's a toy, play with, have fun, but treat it right dont abuse it. Boats get dirty, so you clean it.

Maybe I'm used to it because I go through this with my camping gear after a weekend out. It's always wet and dirty, so I spend the next few days laying stuff out to dry, cleaning, inspecting everything and fixing for next time out.

I keep a pistol under the helm for such situations.

Get in the boat from the swim platform while it’s on the trailer
This is near impossible on my boat, and I would think on others as well. Isn't it easier to step over the side from the fender/step or is this a rule for short/fat people?

On our boat it's hard to get over the side of the from the fender it's more of a safety thing. I tell most people to grab the guide post step on the back on the trailer and step onto swimstep when getting off sit on the swimstep and slide off.

Some of the items on the rules were not my rules and just ended up on the list.

That is what I send out to all our our river families each year. We have 10 families that camp and boat each spring and summer every other weekend and they all will bring friends or other family members who don't boat. Common sense doesn't work well when people just don't know. I ask each family to make a copy and save it so they can e-mail it or give newbies a copy before they join us on the water. It has been great. Normally we refuse the gas money but will always give them a towel to clean the boat. Plus I keep a 12V Big 5 $12 special vac on the boat so when the kids are done eating I can clean up some of the stuff they leave behind.

You forgot the NO SMOKING RULE! It doesn't apply to my group they all dip!

Sorry, tobacco-free here, since June 10th 2007 and I think I can be a d1(K and not allow smoking on my boat, now that I don't.

I am from Brazil and never had the opportunity growing up to go on boats.
When I moved here and was invited to go with friends, I observed how the owner behaved with his boat and try to do the same.

When he took his shoe of before entering the boat I did the same and so forth. Some times I wish or hope others will do the same, I hate to set rules every time we go out.
