Then he needs to tighten it or have it checked by the dealer. It's samson flag ship tower, you think they would release it if it was not as strong as the Razor?

As for as I know they only make two types, one being a Razor and the other called a Switch Blade. I have had both, and have not had any major shaking issues. ( thats with 4 Tower speakers)

The Razor is made of 2.5 inch tubing and the Switch Blade is 3 inch tubing.

Maybe his tower was loose, or I have not been in a real stiff tower.. I don't know?

Either way, no complaints from me about my Samsons
Yes, I just looked at my emails from scott at sampson, He quoted me for the razor, and the switchblade, I wanted the SWITCHBLADE, with the 3" tubing, NOT the RAZOR. So yes, I will be looking to sell my Z series tower that came on my tige.

I have to drive to oregon to do this, but I got a price of $3400 for the razor, and $3850 for the switchblade, installed, and he would haul away my old tower, and I would put it on ebay, and he would ship it for me. Its a lot of dough, but I really love the look of that switchblade, and I can't stand how difficult it is to take my tower up and down. When I bought my boat, I didn't know I was going to be needing to do that, so didn't think about it.

becareful tho. when lowering the sampson tower, I didnt take the weight of the speakers in mind and when I knocked out the supports it came down really hard on my head wasnt ready for that amount of weight. just a lil fyi. Dont be stupid like me

Do any of the new towers have a higher towing capacity than the E-Series used on the 07 20V. What dot they typically cost?

My "E" series is starting to creak. What are the details, where and what did you use?

Anti-seize is a Graphite paste lube. You can buy it at any auto parts store in the chemicals isle, and comes in small tubes up to a pint size tub. Get the small tube, as an automotive tech, my pint size tub has lasted me about 10 yrs . A little dab will do ya.

Fold the tower down, now smear a fine film of lube on the contact points of the 2 joints at the windshield. Put a small amount on the shoulder of both bolts also. Raise tower back up, and install the 2 bolts. Now, wipe a little in the area where the up-right contacts the tower, put a little on the shoulder of the bolts here also, and install.

Tighten everything down. I would also recommend that the mounting bolts/nuts be torqued also. On my Ve, I think I used a 13/16 deepwell socket in the front, and a 3/8 allen for the rear and torqued to 22lbft.

Mounting bolt tightness was a problem in the past as well. Where did you come up with the 22lbft torque spec? I've always been afraid of tightening too much and cracking the fiberglass.

Pulled it out my arse. The bolts and fiber glass are more then strong enough, I was more worried about pinching the rubber gasket. The gasket started to compress at 22lbft, so that's what I stopped at.

The reason I was wondering was when I attempted to tighten the front bolts, I did start to hear what I thought was some cracking from underneath where the metal plate and the fiberglass meet. Either wrong position for plate (it can swivel), or loose fiberglass matting, or.... .

Thanks CP3! I'm a little confused because I thought they made the switchblade (the one from an earlier post) but I don't see it or the razor on that website?
