01 metcaft bimini top red $300?

My infamous metcraft tower snapped this weekend, so i am selling the red bimini that came with it to help cover the cost of a new tower. The bimini itself is in wonderful condition. I have only used it a few times. Ill try to attach a pic.

well...i posted $300 but if you want to make an offer and see what happens id be happy to take it. its only been posted a couple days

As far as what happend...well...i was pulling a couple guys on an inflateable...just starting out, and a huge crashing sound and a bright flash (inside my head) then i looked around and noticed that the only thing holding the top of my tower together was speaker wires... I tore the whole thing apart after reading on here that its happens quite often and it looked like it had been repaired once before.

I talked to tom at monster towers and it looks like ill be going that route. the mounts look identical, and i need my boat cover to fit round the existing tower legs...so yea

As far as the bimini top goes, it is a bit tough to get together, but it does look really great and like i said its in great shape.

BTW, you're not supposed to tow a tube or any inflatable from the tower. When you get your Monster Tower, there's a big warning sign about that.

                rob8862,

I have the same tower, did you take any pics? I have re-enforced my tower but I do worry about that. I wouldn't mind knowing more about the tower you are looking at also. I do plan on changing mine sometime in the future.

What kind of racks do you have on the sides?

                Thanks

sorry no pics, i tore it apart and put the old tower in the dumpster (saved everything to do with the bimini top), but it snapped where the h connects to the side tower rails...all four. I could tell that it had been reinforced. I really think that if i had been more informed about this tower i could have kept an eye on it a bit closer.

Pull those stupid foam pads off the tower and look underneath them. Does it seem funny to everyone that they seem to cover up the stress points? As if by design to hide potential cracks?

It has rattled for the last 2 years, and i just thought thats the way it was. But when i tore it apart i noticed that the rear base screws were loose. Probably could have kept them tight and stopped or slowed some of the wear.

Tom at monster tower has been really helpful, im sure ill be going that direction. Just need to come up with some money, then figure out how to mount all my old equipment to the new tower....run the power for the lights, speaker wire... im getting exausted just thinking about it all!

But i cant teach newbies how to surf pulling them from the pylon. I have been telling people that my boat has a new "topless" look for the time being....

the tower i like is the monster tower mt1. reading through the archives one of the tige reps recommended monster a few years ago. So thats where i looked.

the racks are fusion racks...they are really nice, they hold my surf boards and wakeboards.

funny thats what all my friends told me AFTER the tower broke. Where were they before that???

At the time i was pulling 3 200lb guys and just after getting on it...snap! i know that this isnt the only thing that cause it to snap, 2 years of heavy surfing and wakeboarding...but this was just the camel that broke the staws back...so to speak

tell you what...the is my second season as a boat owner...and i am amazed how i continure to learn new things every trip! And i never have to worry about where to spend any extra money!

                          rob8862,

Was your tower reinforced by welding? I put SS tubing over my lap joints. The back side could still break but it can't go anywhere. I am hoping to replace mine sometime also. I don't put big people off the tower anymore, just wakeboarders and surfers. Let me know how the new tower comes out please.

                          Thanks

I will have to look at home for some pics. Here is what my tower looked like when I took off the pads on the lap joints (tower5 pic). I had been pulling 4 tubes off the tower the wkend before. I don't do this anymore.

What I did is got a piece of SS tubing that we use for headers on the race car and cut it about 14" long. I cut out a slot ontop for the screws and notched the bottom to fit around the post w/ the red arrow. I put the tubing on and had to strap the tower back in place. I re-tapped the holes (had to re-drill one hole) put the screws back in and made sure the tubing was over the welds.

I am hoping that this will releave some of the stress on the back half by not allowing it to move as much. I want to change out the tower sometime in the future. I check my screws for tightness and check out the backside for cracks before I go out now. Hope this helps, will look for more pics at home.

                              Fast1911,
I will send you a PM sometime later this year about the rub rail again. I have to do something and I think I understand what to do but want to make sure. I am not ready to do anything until later on this year.

                              Thanks
