ive been wanting to do this swap every since the tach broke on mine.
question is, if i dont hook up the hour meter to the tach/hour meter guage and leave the stock hour meter, is there any problems?

None, except the hour meter on the tach will not match the other.

The hour meter on the tach counts as long as it has current.

What type of mounting style do you guys recommend I go with for the depth finder? transom mount, in hull, or through hull.....

I used thru hull on the one I installed and it works just fine.
