    Faria gauge set for sale

I have a set of gauges from a 99 21v for sale, this includes the oil, temp, voltage, speedo, tach, fuel and Hummingbird depth gauges (everything but the TAPS gauge). These gauges should work in most Tiges, except the newest models with the CAN bus style gauges. The gauges are in excellent working condition and the lenses have no scratches. There is 174 hours on the tach/hourmeter gauge. Please send me an e-mail at knighb2@earthlink.net if you are interested.

    Sorry for the bad photo.

These work fine in the PRE models too.

I would be interested in the depth finder, my tige doesn't have one.

Would you be willing to sell it by itself? If so, how much, and would it come with everything needed?

I would sell the depth finder separate, do you need the whole thing (gauge and transducer)? The transducer is still glued to the inside of my boat, I didn't remove it because I didn't know if it could be removed without damaging it. Send me an e-mail and maybe we can work something out.

Why are you selling your gauges?

I upgraded to a triducer (paddlewheel speedo pickup, depth sounder and lake temperature) and the gauges with the built-in readouts for the depth, lake/air temperature, fuel management, etc. Because I replaced the entire set, I don't need these anymore.

I sent you an email this morning, hopfully it has made it there by now. :-)

Yes, I would need the transducer, and probably the cable to the transducer (unless you can pick one up pretty cheap).

How hard would it be for me to run the cable from the dash to the bilge (I assume that's where the transducer goes), in a 2004 Switch V? I know the Hummingbird depth finders go for $100 new, and WWS want's a total of $300 for it (installed). Can someone like me do it in a couple of hours?

Is there a better place to put the transducer? Maybe under one of the front seats?

              thanks!

Couple of hours. You can run it next to the steering cables or along the side panels. It is pretty easy to connect electronically. A few jumpers off your existing gauges are about all that is needed. The transducer epoxies to the hull. I found a good spot is about where the pickup is. You want it in a non-turbulent location.

Ok, for "clueless" me. When you say pickup, is that for the speedometer? I would assume the speedometer is mouted on the back of the boat, but that is also going off of my stern-drive usage.

What kind of epoxy do I use? Anything special? Also, how easy will it be for knighb2 to remove the transducer from his boat?

I believe I have spare switches on my dash, so I could tape into one of them for the power.

                  thanks!

Question for the more experienced owners, if I picked the gauges up, what to do about getting a new taps gauge, can I get one? Would I have to go to a dealer? I havent been able to find a taps gauge online, would a trim gauge work the same?:

There are 2 types of Taps gauges, one for the original Taps and a different type for Taps2. The Taps2 gauges were 'standard' type gauges that worked based on resistance changes. The original Taps gauge was different, it works based on measuring an inductance change. At least that is the way I understand it.

Bennett made the original Taps systems (hydraulic) and they also supply the gauges. You can buy a replacement OEM gauge from them for $60.

The pickup is the little black arrowhead looking thing on the back of the boat. It has an airline that goes into the hull then goes to a Bourdon tube, then to more airline to send pressure to your speedo. It is a simple pitot tube instrument.

Many types work as long as it is bubble free (usually meaning low heat or slower curing). I have had good luck with jbweld 5 hour set type. It dries bubble free and reads fine. There is a very expensive special type meant for transducers, but in the end, it is still a plastics based epoxy.

You would want to go to a switched source from the key. If you look behind the panel, you will see a purple wire going to many instruments. Jumper from that one. That is your 12+ switched instrument source. The lighting you would want to tap into the original lighting switch. These farias also share a ground for lights and power, so you get to remove some wiring too.

The original TAPs and the one I have that is based on a Faria blank has 4 wires. Two are green, one is red, and one is black if I recall correctly. You simply hook the red and black to respective (+) and (-) and then the greens go to either post. You can make the above gauge work with any Bennetts hydraulic setup by connecting the proper wiring. An easy way to check if you already have the wiring installed is to look under the dash. You should see a couple of automotive Bosch style relays. Coming from those will be a group of wires. A couple go to the trim switch. A couple go to the hydraulic pump. A couple go to the instrument.

pbrown, do you have a photo of your TAPs gauge? If it looks like my original one, then the above will work fine.

If it looks like that, then it is the same. The other year available had the switch as a rocker style.

I had to get TAPs through the dealer. It was the most expensive. I got it from Texas Tige'. The sppedo was cheapest at boatersland.com.
                            TAPs is part #C2018

Here is a thread with other info.
