yeah, but the new boat market is good cuz the dealers can't sell them so they are lowering the prices lower and lower. You know there is a min of a 200% markup on boats from what tige sells them to the dealers for.....
Sorry Dom, but I have to raise the flag. They might make 200% on parts but boats, I do not believe one bit that they are pricing boats that high. I would say $15K - $30K depending upon the model but not the 200% that you say it is.
I think Tanner cleared this rumor up if you read his posts. You can do the math... how would Tige make any money selling the boat to the dealer for $20k? Parts, labor and tools are more than that! They don't make enough boats to have their cost be $20k and still turn a profit. Now an auto manufacturer who makes millions of cars can do that...

I know for a fact that dealer mark up is around 200%
tige is very nice to their dealers, I mean how else can a dealer sell only 10 boats a year stay afloat?

CP3 well your inside source is very wrong. Like I said, I talked w/ Tige about purchasing a dealership about two years ago. One of my questions to them was, what was the average profit margin and projected number of boats sold for my region. We went over what my expected buy in would be, and the fact that I would get a discount for paying cash for my floorplan. So there are ways for the dealers to increase their profit margin.... but not to the likes of 200%.
Something to keep in mind though, their dealers are tiered. And the price break is SIGNIFICANT at a certain # of boats. Some dealers choose to pass on this price break in order to sell more boats. Others pocket it. In my own personal experience... I have seen one or two dealers try to charge as much $15-$20K difference in price from dealer to dealer. So maybe some guys are making as much as 50%. Your a fool if you go to those dealers.
I will say this.... There's a reason boat dealers sell more than one line of boats.
Actually wannabe hes not far off... if he's accounting for only Tige's sold. That's why most dealerships sell 4 or 5 lines of boats. Most usually sell two inboard lines, 1 or 2 I/O's, pontoons, and then PWC's.
To give you an example.... Tige's projected sales for my region were 6 boats for a first year dealership. With projections of 10-15 after 3-4 years. There's now two Tige dealerships here (one 2 years old and the other, this being their first year). I've yet to see another new Tige at any of the local lakes. However I do know of two that bought from the first year dealership... one inhabits this board.
Being a major OU fan and a staunch conservative.... I am perpetually vexed w/ the conundrum of who to hate more. Obama or the Univ. of Saxet.

That being said, this is why dealer territories are BS. We bought our boat in a city 200 miles away where I used to live and saved $12K becuase we bought it there. According to many dealers, and Tige you shouldn't sell boats out of your territory. So basically a dealer in X territory can charge a ton more and supposedly make the consumer pay it? They need to drop the territory and be more selective with their dealers. We had major problems with one dealer and that is why we were supposedly able to buy out of territory. Tige corporate needs to step up and hold dealers more accountable. If they don't I'm afraid Tige may be doomed.
