    Tint

Wanted to see what you guys are paying to have your windshields tinted and if anyone could recommend someone in the Austin, TX. area. I received this quote and request today which I found odd:

"If you are able to remove the tower from the boat then we can definitely tint the windshield. The tower obstructs the installer from being able to heat shrink the film on the outside. This gives the tint a cleaner look (free of debits and creases).
The price is $225 plus tax (as dark as you would like).

Ask them why not place it on the inside like a car?

I took it as they'll place the tint on inside similar to car but heat from the opposite side to help press out bubbles and creases. Maybe not...... Ha! Just thought it was odd that they would need the tower removed which isn't an option and I think there is plenty room to do so with it in place.

I was just quoted $250, but without the "remove the tower" request. In my case it doesn't matter, since my tower is not in the way anyways. Even so, I was given that quote sight unseen.

Thanks konajay. Price seems to be reasonable then. I may just bring the boat by and show them that there is plenty clearance to do the install. If they let my money walk at that point, maybe it's best I take it to someone more experienced with boat applications. Thanks again!

I just had my Boat tinted Tuesday. The guy lays the tint and shrinks/forms it on the outside of the windshield then installs it on the inside already shrunk to the form.
It would have been twice the price if he did it using one piece so he simply made a simple splice on each corner of the windshield. A guy I called in Amarillo quoted $499 the local tint shop here did it for $200 plus tax. I also got the power stroke front windows done $79 plus tax.
