Samson speaker sounds horrible...

Samson speaker is sounding horrible with bass-heavy songs. I think there is a separation in the speaker diaphragm. Any advice? Contact the factory? Anyone have experience in warranty/service work with them?

First thing I would do is to physically inspect the speaker cone and and where it attaches to the surround. Look for the bond between the cone and surround coming loose, this is a common problem with one particular Samson (and Exile, who actually supplies the driver) tower speaker.

Next, and I would recommend you do this anyway, inspect the amp settings. Its very important that the amp's cross-over filters be set to "Hi-Pass". This is needed to block all those low notes to the speakers that they do not like to reproduce. Once set or confirmed its set to Hi-Pass, then the frequency dial needs to be looked at. Depending on which speaker model you have an the amount of power they are receiving from the amp, will determine the final setting. But for now, I would ball-park it to between 100Hz and 125Hz.

You also need to make sure the head-unit's internal EQ settings are flat or off. Your problem doesnt sound like a gain setting issue, but it would hurt to reset the amp gains as well. You gas search for a tutorial on this site, or google.

There is a bond coming apart between the fibre-like bulge and the main diaphragm....can it be glued?

I will look for the stereo settings.

Yep, that sounds like the bond has let loose between the surround and cone. I would contact Samson first and see what, if anything, they can do for you. It may be repairable, I just dont know what the proper adhesive would be.
